About the Program

The Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery is a comprehensive three-year program designed to train students in the essential skills of nursing and midwifery. This program prepares students for a career in healthcare by equipping them with the knowledge and practical experience required to provide high-quality patient care, maternal and child health services, and community health management.

The curriculum is spread across three years and includes a combination of core nursing subjects, midwifery, and community health care.

Year 1:

  • Fundamentals of Nursing:
    Introduction to the basic concepts and principles of nursing, including patient care, safety, and hygiene practices.

  • Anatomy and Physiology:
    Study of the human body structure and its functions, providing essential knowledge for patient assessment and care.

  • Microbiology:
    Understanding microorganisms and their role in health and disease, with a focus on infection control.

  • Nursing Ethics and Professionalism:
    Emphasis on ethical issues, professional behavior, and communication skills required in nursing.

  • First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS):

Eligibility and Admission Requirements

To apply for the Diploma in Nursing Science and Midwifery program, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria and admission requirements:

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. Educational Qualification:

    • Successful completion of Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) or equivalent exams from any recognized educational board.
    • Minimum GPA Requirement:
      • A minimum GPA of 2.5 in both SSC and HSC exams. Some institutions may require higher GPAs for admission.
  2. Subject Requirements:

    • Science Background: Candidates must have completed their HSC with science subjects, including Biology. Strong foundational knowledge in science, particularly biology, is preferred.
  3. Age Limit:

    • The candidate's age must typically be between 17 to 22 years at the time of admission.

Admission Requirements:

  1. Admission Test:

    • Applicants are usually required to take an entrance examination that tests knowledge in science subjects, particularly Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as general aptitude and English proficiency.
  2. Application Form:

    • Prospective students must complete and submit an official application form to the nursing institution of their choice before the admission deadline. The form can often be found on the institution's website or at their admissions office.
  3. Documents Required:

    • Photocopies of SSC and HSC certificates and transcripts (mark sheets).
    • A birth certificate or other valid proof of age.
